Reiki Healing

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese healing modality (reiki means "life force energy") that is gentle and non-invasive. It is among many of the energy healing modalities intended to increase and improve quality of life. Reiki is meant as a form of complementary and alternative medicine; there’s evidence it can reduce daily stress and help with management of some chronic diseases.

What to expect

During a reiki session, the practitioner will direct reiki energy to you by hovering their hands just above, or on, your clothed body with the intention of encouraging a healthy flow of energy that can alleviate stress, tension and even pain. Sessions can last anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes.

Reiki and Mental Health

Since Reiki energy activates the parasympathetic nervous system, it can reduce cortisol levels, which in turn calms the nerves and reduces the experience of neurophysiological stress or perceived stress. It stimulates deep relaxation and feelings of tranquility that can assist the body’s natural healing process. It is important to note that Reiki should never take the place of medical treatments.

Reiki can be used as a stand-alone service or in conjunction with counselling and other therapies to treat the following:

·  Anxiety

·  Depression

·  Acute and Chronic Pain

·  Stress

·  Insomnia

·  Fatigue

·  Nausea

·  Appetite Changes

·  Shortness of breath

·  Drowsiness

·  Memory loss

Many possible psychological benefits derived from Reiki’s effects on the parasympathetic nervous system include:

·  Anxiety reduction

·  Depression improvement

·  Changes in self-esteem

·  Improved mood

·  Increase in positive emotions

·  Improved emotional regulation
